George Sayre, Photographer:   Passion...Vision...Service
George Sayre, self-portrait
My love of the field of photography began in my dad’s homemade darkroom.  It was magical watching blank sheets of white paper after being exposed to light and immersed in smelly chemical baths transform into images of far away places that my dad had visited during the Second World War. My father encouraged my passion by giving me a camera.  I very quickly learned how the camera can see a scene differently from my own eye.

Today, as a photographer, I embrace the concept of capturing images “as they are” in each moment.  Hence, I don’t alter scenes either physically, with filters or through other methods.  What the viewer sees in my photographs is what I saw when I captured the images.  Of late, my images reflect the influence of  teacher, Eddie Soloway.  I feel I have made a shift—from making images of a place—to a more Zen like effort to capture the magic of a moment or communicate the essence of a place.

As you view my galleries, you will see images from the world of landscapes and plants. Nature is a place of healing for me.  It affords me an opportunity to train my senses to see and feel the immediate moment.  Nature has also taught me to slow down and single-pointedly place my attention there.  If viewers of my images can lose themselves for a moment and catch a small piece of that healing, then the images have worked their magic.

Until recently, I have kept my photographs for my personal use.  I now have a purpose in sharing them with others.  Since 2006, I have become involved in a project to create a dental clinic for orphans in the Mexican border town of Agua Prita.  This effort is being made in concert with the non-profit organization “Wings of Angels”.   In support of this cause, all profits from the sale of note cards, prints, images and products available through this web site will be used to help create and fund this clinic.  Thank you for visiting this site and for sharing in this vision—if only for a moment.
